Understanding how software works

Some people who are not very familiar with computing terms often ask; what is software?

It’s simply computer instruction or data. It’s that tool, seen or unseen, that tells your computer to do stuff or that stores data. These are the opposites of hardware which you can see and touch. You can see your CD or DVD but you can’t see the data stored on it, unless you insert the CD or DVD into a computer and check out the contents.
