Russian cosmonaut spent 879 days in space

Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka returned securely to Earth with two different space travelers from the International Space Station (ISS) on Saturday (Sept 12) with the record for having invested the most energy in space.

Padalka – who has spent an aggregate of 879 days in space more than five different outings – touched ground on the desolate Kazakh steppe on timetable at 0051 GMT (8.51am Singapore time) alongside Kazakh cosmonaut Aidyn Aimbetov and Danish space explorer Andreas Mogensen.

“Landing has occurred,” a representative for Russia’s space organization Roscosmos told AFP. “All is well.”
